A female police officer shot in the jaw Monday night while investigating a suspicious vehicle in Yonkers was reported to be recovering at a New York hospital. The 26-year-old officer, who has not been identified, is reportedly in serious but stable condition at Jacobi Hospital in the Bronx. Two suspects have been taken into custody following a prolonged gun battle with police. Officials say one of the suspects opened fire on the female officer when she and another officer approached their vehicle to follow up on reports of a suspicious car. Another officer returned fire, leaving one of the suspects wounded. No details on that suspect’s condition have been released. An investigation is underway.
