Woman Dies at Occupy Vancouver

A young woman referred to as "Ashley" by Occupy protesters died on Saturday of a reported heroin overdose in a tent at Occupy Vancouver, only three days after a young man overdosed at the site. Vancouver's Mayor Gregor Robertson responded with a call to close down the site, saying, "This loss of life and the overdose just a few days ago clearly demonstrate that the situation here in camp has deteriorated." He said city officials would be taking steps to break up the tent city "as soon as possible, with a safe resolution being absolutely critical to that." Robertson also said he had visited the site several times in the past week, though protesters denied it. A Vancouver police spokeswoman confirmed that the woman who died was found "unresponsive" in a tent, but she wouldn't confirm whether the death was due to a drug overdose.
