Whitman Is Biggest Spender Ever

Look out, Michael Bloomberg: Former eBay executive Meg Whitman has become the biggest spender in U.S. political history by dropping $119 million on her own campaign for California governor. Just this week, Whitman reported spending an additional $15 million on her campaign. With seven weeks until election day, the number could likely get bigger. Her closest competition in self-funding history is Bloomberg, New York's mayor, who spent $109 million in his run for a third term last year. Whitman said Wednesday that the historic spending is a result of the fact that there are 2.3 million more registered Democrats than Republicans in the Golden State. "Our job is we have to tell my story, tell why I will be the very best governor for California," she said.
