White House Staffer Killed in Bike Ride

Authorities said a White House senior technology advisor was killed in a charity cycling accident in Maryland on Friday. Jake Brewer, 34, was participating in the D.C. charity event Ride of Conquer Cancer when he lost control and collided with a Honda Pilot, White House officials and police said. The driver of the Pilot was unharmed. "I am heartbroken at the tragic loss of one of my advisors, Jake Brewer," President Barack Obama said in a statement Saturday. Brewer is survived by his wife and daughter with another child on the way, according to U.S. Chief Technology Officer Megan Smith.
