What do conservatives believe about Fast & Furious? See the comments after a level-headed post by Paul Mirengoff at Powerline to glimpse the operating paranoid theories at work underneath the controversy:
Here's the top-rated comment, but there's plenty more:
Paul, I don't think the intent was an increase in violence in Mexico. There was plenty of that already going on. I think the intent was to make sure guns from the US were responsible for the violence that was already occurring. Guns that could be traced back to the US. That I think was the logic anyway. I don't believe that they considered any US deaths as a result of their plan. And I believe that when this plan was conceived the Obama administration did not see the 2010 mid-term defeat for the Democrats. They probably thought the economy would be getting much better by then and the Democrats would strengthen their majorities in the 2010 elections. The Obama 2008 victory was suppose to be the beginning of the great liberal golden age. With the help of the MSM they thought F&F would never come to light. Ending the 2nd amendment is a very noble liberal cause. I also believe that when Obama told Mrs. Brady that he was pursuing gun control "under the radar" he was referring to things like F&F. Finally I believe this bunch isn't much smarter than the Apple Dumpling Gang.
