Violent Gay Marriage Protests Rock France

On Tuesday, France is expected to pass legislation legalizing same-sex marriage--becoming the 14th country to do so. The country has been rocked by protests and violence against the bill, including a number of arrests. Despite the bitter conflict in the streets, the final vote is expected to pass smoothly with President François Hollande's voting majority. The French public supports equal rights for same-sex couples, but last week the area around Parliament saw nightly demonstrations and clashes with riot police.
