Vietnamese Father and Son Hid in Jungle for 42 Years
Ho Van Thanh, 82, and his adult son were discovered in a jungle tree house where they’d been hiding for over 40 years since fleeing the U.S. war in Vietnam. The elder Ho was too weak to walk when authorities found them and had to be carried out of his jungle hideaway on a hammock. After his wife and two other children were killed by U.S. bombs in 1971, Ho grabbed his then-1-year-old son and headed for the jungle. Twenty years ago one of Ho's other sons found them and tried to convince them to leave the jungle but, too afraid to be around other people, they refused.
