For the first time, Arizona officials have publicly described video footage that captured the shooting of Rep. Gabrielle Giffords and many others last week. In the footage, Pima County authorities say, the gunman, identified as Jared Loughner, shoots Giffords from a range of three feet just above the eye. He “was very deliberate in my estimation, very calculated,” said a Pima County Sheriff’s Department bureau chief. The video also shows Judge John Roll—who died from his gunshot wounds—apparently saving the life of Ronald Barber by shielding him with his body. Barber, a Giffords staffer, survived two gunshot wounds.
