U.S. Women’s Soccer Eliminated from Rio

The U.S. Women's Soccer team was eliminated Friday in the Olympic quarterfinals, making it the first time time the national team will not win a medal in the Summer Olympics. The U.S. women lost to Sweden in penalty kicks after a 1-1 tie at the end of regulation time. The U.S. team had won the gold medal at every Olympic Games tournament between 1996 and 2012, with the exception of the 2000 games in Sydney, at which they took home the silver. The women's national team also won the most recent Women's World Cup tournament in 2015.
