U.S. Troops Kill Five Civilians

American troops killed as many as five civilians in Kandahar on Monday after opening fire on a bus. The attack, which wounded 18 others, set off protests around Kandahar, with Afghanis blocking the main highway out of the city with burning tires and chanting “Death to America.” Afghan eyewitnesses say the bus was fired on for driving too closely to a NATO convoy. NATO says it is investigating the incident, which could bolster support of the Taliban ahead of an important U.S. military offensive in Kandahar.
