U.S. Secretly Cuts Aid to Egypt

The U.S. has secretly pulled aid funding to Egypt, U.S. Sen. Patrick Leahy exclusively told The Daily Beast on Monday. The White House has insisted that the $585 million of aid appropriated for Egypt is officially on hold, and no final decision has been made. Two administration officials told The Daily Beast that the White House decided to observe the law that will restrict military aid on a temporary basis, and the U.S. State Department said no policy decision had been made. Meanwhile, in Egypt, Muslim Brotherhood leader Mohammed Badie has been detained. He is reportedly being transferred to a Tora prison, where ousted leader Hosni Mubarak is being held.
