U.S. Envoy Holbrooke in Critical Condition

Richard Holbrooke, the 69-year-old special envoy to Afghanistan and Pakistan, is in critical condition at George Washington University Hospital after undergoing surgery for a torn aorta. The State Department says Holbrooke’s surgery was completed on Saturday and his family is with him. The president appointed Holbrooke in the early part of his administration. Holbooke is well-known for his negotiating skills that ended the war in Bosnia in 1995.
