U.S. Aircraft in Sudan Attacked

Aircraft on a mission to evacuate American citizens from South Sudan were attacked on Saturday, forcing them to turn back without completing the rescue, officials said. President Obama had sent 45 servicemen in three CV-22 Ospreys to "support the security of U.S. personnel and our embassy" in heavily contested territory. Sudan officials said the attack--which left four service members wounded, one seriously--was the work of rebel forces. It is unknown how many Americans were to be evacuated or if they are still in danger.
