Ukrainian Pilot Released in Russia

Jailed Ukrainian pilot Nadezhda Savchenko has been released and is returning home, according to the AP. An unnamed official told the news agency that her release is based on a swap for two Russian officials imprisoned in Ukraine. Savchenko was volunteering for Ukraine’s ground forces when she was allegedly taken by pro-Moscow rebels. Savchenko was found guilty in March of complicity to murder in the deaths of Russian journalists who were operating in Ukraine. Ukrainian President Petro Poroshenko called the trial “a farce.”
