Ukraine Reinstates Military Conscription

Ukraine has reinstated conscription as its military struggles to keep a hold on the eastern part of the country while pro-Russian separatists gain ground. Earlier Thursday, Russia requested that Ukraine just hand over the eastern part of the country, with Russian President Vladimir Putin suggesting the Ukrainian government should withdraw its troops. Putin told German Chancellor Angela Merkel Thursday that Ukraine should have a "broad national dialogue" to issue reforms to the country's constitution. Ukraine used to have mandatory military service, but scrapped it in 2013.
