Prosecutors in Austria have charged a soldier from the U.K. with raping and sexually abusing a 6-year-old girl. The soldier’s identity has not been released, but he was serving with the 7th Parachute Regiment Royal Horse Artillery. He was in Austria for a week of ski training in November when the alleged encounter occurred. According to a spokesman for the state prosecutor’s office in Tyrol, authorities believe the man entered the girl’s unlocked family home while drunk early in the morning. He was subsequently discovered in the girl’s bedroom by her father after he woke up due to the noise. The father, according to police, then “beat him bloody” before police arrived. The girl has been interviewed by the police.
