Uber has agreed to pay $10 million to settle a class-action lawsuit involving 420 “female and minority software engineers who alleged discrimination and a hostile work environment,” according to The San Francisco Chronicle. The proposed settlement reportedly “applies to all women and people of color who worked as software engineers at Uber since July 2013.” The settlement also includes commitments from Uber to find new ways to deal with compensation and promotion—and provide more mentorship to women and minority engineers. This comes after a string of scandals involving gender and racial discrimination at the company—including accusations that some women and people of color were paid less and promoted at a slower rate. The company has since replaced its CEO and reportedly reformed its salary structure. Meanwhile, it emerged that Uber is ending all of its self-driving-car testing in California after one of the autonomous vehicles struck and killed a woman in Arizona.
