U-Md. Prez: Rename Stadium over Racism

The president of the University of Maryland has asked that the school rename Byrd Stadium, citing its namesake's segregationist legacy. Wallace Loh announced on Monday afternoon that he believes the new stadium name should be Maryland Stadium. Students have recently complained that Harry Clifton “Curley” Byrd, president of U-Md. from 1936 to 1954, barred blacks from enrolling and ran for governor as a proud segregationist.
