The death toll rose to eight on Sunday in violent storms that swept the southern states. More than a dozen people were injured after two confirmed tornadoes emerged out of the storms. At least four people were killed in Texas, including a 3-year-old and an 8-year-old who died when a tree fell on their car, the Associated Press reports. Their parents reportedly survived. There were more deaths in Mississippi, including a 95-year-old man who was killed when a tree slammed into his trailer. Flash floods associated with the storm claimed at least two lives in Louisiana. The storms have left many communities with impassable roads, leveled homes, and power outages. Most of the region north of Houston was under a tornado warning Saturday, as the storm system moved northeast from San Antonio. AccuWeather reported that almost all power was knocked offline for over 3,000 people during the storm.
