Twitter Is Killing Off Vine

Amid reports that Twitter will slash its workforce after being unable to find a buyer, the social-media company announced on Thursday that it will discontinue its popular short-form video-sharing service Vine in coming months. “We value you, your Vines, and are going to do this the right way,” the company wrote on Medium. “You’ll be able to access and download your Vines. We’ll be keeping the website online because we think it’s important to still be able to watch all the incredible Vines that have been made. You will be notified before we make any changes to the app or website.” The site has operated since 2013. Twitter announced earlier in the day that it would cut nine percent of its 3,860-person staff amid serious financial losses and an inability to keep up with competitors like Facebook and Instagram.
