Trump’s Tariffs Will Hurt Growth, White House Analysis Shows

An internal White House analysis shows that President Donald Trump’s newly imposed tariffs will harm economic growth, The New York Times reports. The report was conducted by the White House Council of Economic Advisers. Kevin Hassett, who chairs that group, has insisted that Trump’s negotiating skills would lead to other countries opening their trade markets, but so far, the countries affected by the tariffs have threatened to impose penalties of their own in response. Trump has angered Congress, including and especially members of his own party, for using his national security authority to designate certain imports for tariffs.
