Trump: We’re ‘Looking At’ Antitrust Cases Against Tech Giants

President Donald Trump said his administration is eyeing potential antitrust actions against tech titans Amazon, Facebook, and Google. “We are certainly looking at it...for all three,” Trump told Axios in an interview last week that aired on Sunday. “Look, that doesn’t mean we’re doing it, but we’re certainly looking. I think most people surmise that.” Trump hedged on potential regulation of the tech companies, citing First Amendment concerns, but said he’s had “so many people” warning of the companies’ monopoly status. In the same interview, the president objected to a record-breaking $5.1 billion antitrust fine levied against Google by the European Union in July. “Frankly, I don’t like that they’re doing that because that’s an American company. I don’t think it’s good that they’re doing that,” Trump said. “But if anybody does that, that should be us doing it.”
