Trump to Meet With Russia’s Foreign Minister

President Trump will meet with Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov at the White House on Wednesday. The two will discuss Syria and other issues in international relations, Reuters cited a senior U.S. official as saying Tuesday. The meeting—Trump’s highest-level meeting with Moscow since he took office—comes after relations with the Kremlin have worsened in the wake of U.S. airstrikes on a Syrian air field last month. Ties were already strained over U.S. allegations of Russia meddling in the presidential election, an issue the White House has signaled it is ready to forget. White House spokeswoman Sarah Huckabee Sanders said Tuesday that it’s “time to move on” from the investigation into Moscow’s ties to Trump’s campaign. Her comments followed Trump’s dismissal of FBI Director James Comey, the man in charge of that investigation. The Trump administration said Comey’s dismissal Tuesday was due to a loss of faith over his handling of the investigation into Hillary Clinton’s email setup, but Democrats have expressed alarm over a move they say is reminiscent of the Watergate scandal.
