Trump, Theresa May Prepare for First White House Meeting
British Prime Minister Theresa May will be the first foreign leader to meet with Donald Trump at the White House on Friday, with a news conference to follow in the afternoon. “Sometimes, opposites attract,” she said of the potential to get along with the 45th president of the United States, despite their obvious differences. May on Thursday told Republicans that the two nations must “stand strong together.” She called the trip an “honor,” adding how exceptional it is to visit as “dawn breaks on a new era of American renewal.” She tempered such praise with warnings not to abandon the Iran nuclear deal and with advice to the U.S. to defend Russia's neighboring countries. “The days of Britain and America intervening in sovereign countries in an attempt to remake the world in our own image are decisively over,” she said.
