Trump Pays Tribute to Slain Navy SEAL’s Wife

Carryn Owens, the wife of the Navy SEAL killed in a counterterrorism raid in Yemen authorized by President Trump, appeared as a special guest during Trump’s congressional address Tuesday night. The president called attention to her presence as he spoke about the U.S. fight against terrorism, saying that William “Ryan” Owens “died as he lived: a warrior, and a hero, battling against terrorism and securing our nation.” Owens received a prolonged standing ovation from the room, prompting Trump to remark that her husband is likely happy from the heavens to see such a tribute being paid to his life. Owens was killed in a Jan. 29 raid on an al Qaeda stronghold on the Arabian Peninsula—a Trump-ordered operation that many described as having failed. Bill Owens, the father of the late Navy SEAL, refused to meet with Trump last week and demanded an investigation into the raid.
