Trump Official Urges Staff to Donate Money to Federal Workers Losing Pay During Shutdown

Some federal employees who are still getting paid during the partial government shutdown have been asked to donate money to those who aren’t, Bloomberg News reports. The Department of Labor’s assistant secretary for administration and management, Bryan Slater, reportedly sent an email Thursday urging department staff to chip in for workers at agencies affected by the partial U.S. government shutdown. “I want to emphasize how fortunate we are at the Labor Department to be funded during this time,” he was quoted as writing. “This is a great opportunity to help fellow colleagues manage their bills, their child care and other everyday needs!” According to Bloomberg, Slater provided a pledge form for the fundraising program Combined Federal Campaign, which divvies up cash for charities for beneficiaries including “federal employees in the local area and beyond,” he wrote.
