Trump Lashes Out at ‘Racist’ Spike Lee After Oscars Speech

Donald Trump has hit out at Spike Lee after the director used his Academy Awards acceptance speech to denounce the president. Spike Lee called for the rejection of Trump, without mentioning him by name, after he won Best Adapted Screenplay for Blackkklansman—his first award after nearly three decades as America’s most prominent black director. “The 2020 presidential election is around the corner,” said Lee, going on to say: “Let’s all mobilize, let’s all be on the right side of history, let’s choose love over hate, let’s do the right thing.” Early Monday, Trump angrily responded in a tweet, saying: “Be nice if Spike Lee could read his notes, or better yet not have to use notes at all, when doing his racist hit on your President, who has done more for African Americans (Criminal Justice Reform, Lowest Unemployment numbers in History, Tax Cuts, etc.) than almost any other Pres!”
