Hours after The New York Times reported that White House lawyer Don McGahn was cooperating with Robert Mueller’s investigation, Donald Trump tweeted that he allowed McGahn to do so. The president also claimed the White House released over a million pages of documents. “I allowed White House Counsel Don McGahn, and all other requested members of the White House Staff, to fully cooperate with the Special Counsel.” he tweeted, adding that his administration is the “Most transparent in history. No Collusion, No Obstruction. Witch Hunt!” McGahn and his attorney William A. Burck were confused about why Trump allowed McGahn to speak freely to Mueller and feared McGahn was being set up to take blame for obstruction of justice, according to the Times. In at least three interviews, McGahn reportedly told Mueller about Trump’s frustration with the investigation, Trump’s behavior surrounding James Comey’s firing, and Trump’s reported attempts to have Mueller fired.
