Felix Sater, the controversial New York real-estate developer who was reported to be involved in the planning of a secret document proposing a way to end the conflict between Ukraine and Russia, says he was only trying to promote peace. In an interview, Sater denied any connections between the Donald Trump presidential campaign and the Russian government. “What could be wrong in helping stop a war and trying to achieve peace? I have done so much for my country and thought that promoting peace was a good thing,” he told Fox News on Monday night. “People are getting killed. It’s a war.” The New York Times reported Sunday that the plan would have lifted recent U.S. sanctions on Russia. Sater bemoaned how he was being “dragged through the mud for no reason whatsoever” over the allegations of his connections to Vladimir Putin’s Russian government.
