Trump: Another Shutdown Is ‘Certainly an Option’

Just as hundreds of thousands of federal workers prepared to head back to work Monday after the country’s longest-ever government shutdown, President Trump on Sunday vowed to find a way to build his wall and said another shutdown is “certainly an option.” In an interview with The Wall Street Journal, Trump said it was unlikely that congressional negotiators could strike a deal to secure his desired $5.7 billion in government funding for the wall. “I personally think it’s less than 50-50, but you have a lot of very good people on that board,” he was quoted as saying. He went on to stress that he wouldn’t budge, either in terms of funding or broader concessions on immigration in exchange for the money. “I have to do it right,” he said, adding that he is unlikely to accept anything less than $5.7 billion.
