A former Penn State fraternity brother has been sentenced to nine months in prison for the fatal hazing death of pledge Timothy Piazza, a judge ruled in Centre County court on Tuesday. Joshua Kurczewski, 20, who is among four former Beta Pi fraternity brothers investigated in Piazza’s death, was sentenced to three to nine months in Centre County Correctional Facility for the Feb. 2017 incident. He was also ordered to pay a $2,250 fine, complete 100 hours of community service, and serve one year of probation. Kurczewski pleaded guilty to one count of conspiracy to commit hazing, one count of hazing, and one count of furnishing liquor to a minor. Police said PSU freshman Timothy Piazza fatally fell down the stairs at an initiation event for new pledges at the fraternity house after he was given at least 18 drinks over 90 minutes as part of a hazing ritual.
