Tidal, Kanye West Face Class-Action Suit

Kayne West and Jay Z are facing a class-action lawsuit that alleges some fans were duped into signing up for Tidal, their music-streaming service. The suit, filed Monday in the U.S. District Court in San Francisco, claims the company misled users to sign up under the pretext that it was the only way to access West’s new album, The Life of Pablo. However, the album is now streaming on Apple and Spotify. By duping fans into signing up, the company also collected users’ personal data, including credit-card information, the lawsuit alleges. The plaintiff, Justin Baker-Rhett, is asking Tidal to refund subscribers who signed up to access the album, along with unspecified punitive damages, and a requirement that the company erase information about those affected users.
