Three people attending a vigil in St. Louis on Wednesday night were injured after being hit by a car driving through the area. The driver, who has not been identified, was taken into custody for allegedly fleeing the scene, a police spokeswoman said. Protesters were taking part in a candle-lit march for a black transgender woman fatally shot by police a day earlier when a car tried to pass through their procession at an intersection. Police said an altercation then followed in which “protesters surrounded the vehicle and began striking it with their hands and a flag pole.” “Several protesters also kicked and jumped on top of the vehicle,” police said in a statement. A witness cited by the St. Louis Post-Dispatch said the driver raised his middle fingers at protesters before accelerating into the group. Three protesters sustained minor injuries and refused medical treatment at the scene.
