The Taylor Swift Monologues
Actress Nina Millin’s ‘Beyoncélogues’ were a smash success. Now she’s taken on two T. Swift classics in honor of her five-night run at the Staples Center.
There are those who would argue that today’s top pop hits are just mindless drivel, devoid of real emotion or artistry. But what happens when you strip away the canned beats and Autotune, ditch the guitar noodling and sampling, and let the song’s bare bones, the lyrics, stand on their own?
That was the question actress Nina Millin asked when she decided to turn Beyoncé lyrics into dramatic monologues. The result, aptly dubbed “The Beyoncélogues,” was an Internet hit, even landing Millin a spot on Queen Latifah’s show to do her thing. Now, a year later, Millin has crafted a new series of monologues centered around America’s sweetheart and New York’s ambassador, Taylor Swift, in honor of her epic five-date run of shows at Los Angeles’s Staples Center.
“I loved performing ‘The Beyoncélogues,’ and after Queen Latifah had me on her show the second time to perform ‘Shake It Off,’ a spark in me was lit to dive into Taylor Swift’s music and create ‘The Swiftalogues,’” Millin explains. “I’ve always been a fan of Taylor Swift, but after exploring her lyrics in depth I love her more than ever. These ‘Swiftalogues’ are not only my love letters to her but also a thank you for inspiring fans (like me) across the world!”
