The Social Network Reigns Again

Looks like The Social Network still has plenty of friends. The film about the origins of Facebook and its creator Mark Zuckerberg is garnering plenty of Oscar chatter and comparisons to Citizen Kane and won the Hollywood box office battle in its second week of release with $15 million, narrowly defeating a pair of new entries: the Katherine Heigl-starring romantic comedy Life As We Know It, which made $14.6 million, and horse-racing film Secretariat, which earned $12.6 million. The Social Network exhibited great legs, dropping just 31 percent its second weekend for a total gross of $46 million after only 10 days in release. The weekend’s other new entry, Wes Craven’s critically pummeled 3-D horror film My Soul To Take, bombed with just $6.9 million. It's been a slow month at the box office, but next week’s entries, Jackass 3-D and the Bruce Willis-Helen Mirren action comedy Red, should heat things up.
