The End of Bitchiness

Simon Doonan takes to the web pages of Slate Thursday to condemn the end of bitchiness in the fashion industry. Using the always glistening Karl Lagerfield as his lodestar, Doonan, a Daily Beast contributor, says fashion has lost its way. “The Fashion World is assumed, by an increasingly style-obsessed public, to be an intimidating hornets' nest of snarky asides and venomous back-biting,” Doonan writes. But, “The truth is both surprising and disappointing. Not only is fashion no longer bitchy, it has become positively snuggly.” One sign of the new friendliness? The fashion world’s embrace of a 14-year-old blogger named Tavi Gevinson.
