The Egyptian Jon Stewart Resigns

The Daily Show wouldn't fly in Egypt. On Monday, television host and political satirist Bassem Youssef, known as Egypt's answer to Jon Stewart, resigned from his three-year-old "Al Bernameg" program. Youssef announced that he decided to end the popular show for reasons having to do with "harassment" and pressures on him and the broadcaster, which is owned by Saudi Arabia, a financial backer of President-elect Abdel Fatah al-Sissi. Last year, the Committee to Protect Journalists awarded Youssef the International Press Freedom Award.
