‘The Daily Show’s’ Trevor Noah Mocks ‘Jackass’ Trump’s Lame Black Outreach
The Daily Show host dismantles Donald Trump’s ignorant pitch to African-American voters.
Besides the decision to name Breitbart executive Steve Bannon as his campaign chief, this week hasn’t seen any truly devastating gaffes from within the Trump campaign. But that doesn’t mean The Donald is back on track.
On Tuesday, Trump made his pitch to African-American voters in Wisconsin. But instead of doing it from the diverse inner city of Milwaukee, he chose to make his speech from the 95 percent white town of West Bend.
“You know things are bad when a rich white man is asking black people for help,” Trevor Noah said on The Daily Show Wednesday night. “Because normally the only time a 70-year-old billionaire is asking black people for help, it is usually their nurse. And it is usually because they shit themselves. And technically the Trump campaign has, so I guess it makes sense.”
Instead of admitting that problems exist between police and the black community, Trump blamed the Obama administration and his Democratic opponent for pushing a false “narrative” that cops are racist.
“So wait, Donald Trump is implying that the only reason black communities feel oppressed isn’t because of their experiences,” Noah said. “No, it’s because of the Democrats who have tricked them.” Instead of reforming police departments, Trump is now calling for more police officers. This proposal led Noah to an analogy: “The Philadelphia 76ers don’t need more basketball players, they need better basketball players.”
From there, Noah used the city of Baltimore to lay out the ample evidence that police departments do engage in systemic racism. Most blatantly, officers in Baltimore used a template for arrest reports in which they would fill in the blanks like date, time, and address to describe what happened. But one piece of information was pre-populated: “Black male.”
“Next time someone tells you the narrative of racial bias in policing is made up, maybe you can use this template,” Noah said, presenting a similar form. “What you do is you fill in the date, the place where it happened, and the name of the person who dismissed your racial claim. And there is one field that we can prefill, because the person who is telling you this, they are always a jackass.”
