Thai Dissident Shot in the Head

General Khattiya Sawatdiphol, a leader of the anti-government Red Shirt movement in Thailand, was shot in the head during an interview with the International Herald-Tribune in Bangkok on Thursday. An aide told the Associated Press that Sawatdiphol’s wound is “severe.” The 59-year-old was known to have been a supporter of anti-government protesters who discount the legitimacy of the coalition government. The Thai military was reportedly planning to move into an area were protesters had been demonstrating for two months during a standoff with authorities.
