Texas Governor Nixes ‘Bill of Rights’ Nativity Scene

Texas Gov. Greg Abbott ordered the removal of a nativity scene substituting the Bill of Rights for a baby Jesus from the state capitol. The exhibit, sponsored by the Freedom From Religion Foundation, went up last week and had permission from officials to be in the building through Christmas. Much to Abbott’s chagrin, it features the Founding Fathers and the Statue of Liberty standing over the constitutional document, a demonstration which the Republican claimed “promotes ignorance and falsehood as it suggests that George Washington, Benjamin Franklin, and Thomas Jefferson worshipped the Bill of Rights in the place of Jesus.”
