Texas Frees Innocent Man After 18 Years

On Wednesday of this week, charges were dropped against Anthony Graves—a man who was wrongly convicted of murdering six people in 1992 and imprisoned for 18 years. Graves spent 12 of those years on death row but was released after a Texas judge signed a motion stating, “We have found no credible evidence which inculpates this defendant.” The district attorney of the county prosecuting Graves said, “There’s not a single thing that says Anthony Graves was involved in this case. There is nothing.” Last month, Texas Monthly examined the abortion of justice in Graves’ case. Describing his first day out of prison, Graves said, “For the first moments, for the few hours, I thought I would wake up and be right back in the cell.”
