Texas Battles Epic Wildfires

“I can only describe it as an ocean of black, with a few islands of yellow,” said Texas State Representative Pete Gallego on Sunday, describing wildfires that are shaping up to be the worst in the state’s history. As many as 80 homes and 30 buildings have been destroyed by the blaze, which has burned up more than 60,000 acres, with flames reaching 15 to 20 feet high. The blazes, many of them still out of control, have been triggered by dry and windy weather conditions. The Federal Emergency Management Agency is expected to begin assisting the state soon.
