Taliban Reaches Out to Karzai

As the Israel-Palestine peace talks appear to fall apart, could another set of negotiations be coming together? General David Petraeus said on Monday that the Taliban has approached Afghan President Hamid Karzai about starting reconciliation discussions to end the fighting in Afghanistan. “There are very high-level Taliban leaders who have sought to reach out to the highest levels of the Afghan government, and they have done that,” Petraeus said. “Now President Karzai’s conditions are very clear, very established, and, certainly, we support them as we did in Iraq, as the British did in Northern Ireland. This is the way you end insurgencies.”
