Taliban Overrun Afghan Police Post

At least 17 police officers were killed Saturday when a police base in the southern Afghan province of Helmand was overrun by Taliban insurgents. The insurgents staged a large-scale attack shortly after midnight and continued until daylight, according to local police. “There are also casualties to the Taliban, but we do not know the figures,” said a spokesman for Helmand Province’s governor. “We are investigating how this happened. Why didn’t district center headquarters send reinforcements? It’s a big loss. We are saddened.”
