Syria Kills 40 Protesters

Syria sent tanks into the central city of Homs, a day after government forces fired on protesters, killing at least 40 people, according to the BBC. The death toll in Syria has been hard to confirm, with the government keeping the media out. But the United Nations says it will send a humanitarian mission this weekend to witness the effects of the crackdown on protesters. The U.N. commissioner on human rights also said her organization has made a list of 50 senior Syrian officials responsible for the violence. The U.N. estimates 2,000 civilians have been killed so far.
