Stocks Slide In Spite of Speech

After an early upward surge stocks slid late in the day on Wednesday and the market closed in the red in spite of Obama's optimistic speech last night. The Dow Jones Industrial Average declined 80 points, just over 1%, and the S&P 500 and Nasdaq closed with similar declines. According to the Wall Street Journal, "the markets swings typified the recent lack of conviction among investors, who have often been antsy after any rally to exit quickly and book profits" before the next drop. In a down economy, even hope has its limits.
