Sleek Design For New U.S. Embassy in London Unveiled

The State Department revealed its plan for a new embassy in London by the Philadelphia-based architectural firm KieranTimberlake on February 23. The proposed glass cube structure is covered in an intricate quilt-like design that is set among two small meadows and a moat, creating a sense of fortitude for the embassy. The department ran a yearlong competition before selection the design that would be featured when the embassy moves from its current central London address to a more isolated location south of the Thames River in the light-industry zone. The expected billion-dollar project will be set on a 4.8-acre lot and will use new solar energy technology in its structure.
