Sixteen Dead in Karachi Blast

Police say a large bomb tore through an illegal gambling den in the southern Pakistan city of Karachi Thursday, killing at least 16. At least 30 more were wounded in the blast, which took place in a neighborhood where drug and arms gangs operate; the den was apparently operated by one gang. Nearly 800 people died last year in Karachi in political and ethnic attacks. It is not yet clear whether Thursday’s blast was ethnically motivated or simply the result of intergang rivalries.
