‘Sh*tty Media Men’ List Creator Moira Donegan Outs Herself

A writer named Moira Donegan has come forward to claim authorship of the now-infamous “Shitty Media Men List,” a compilation of sexual-harassment allegations against men in the media industry. The list sent shockwaves through much of the industry since it began circulating in October, but Donegan, in her first comments on the situation, says she’s “thankful” to all the women who helped spread the list. Donegan wrote in New York magazine’s The Cut on Wednesday that she “only wanted to create a place for women to share their stories of harassment and assault” but wound up triggering a “much broader reckoning with abuses of power.” “In the weeks after the spreadsheet was exposed, my life changed dramatically,” Donegan wrote, adding that she’s lost her friends and her job as a result of the list. She decided to out herself after social-media hype surrounding an upcoming Harper’s piece on the list made it “inevitable” her identity would come out. “I still don’t know what kind of future awaits me now that I’ve stopped hiding,” she wrote.
