Shirley Sherrod Turns Down Job

Good for her: Shirley Sherrod has rejected an offer to return to the Agriculture Department that fired her after Andrew Breitbart’s hit job last month. Agriculture Secretary Tom Vilsack said that Sherrod did agree to work as a consultant with the agency on civil-rights issues down the road. Sherrod said she couldn’t accept the position—which is not the same as her old one, but rather in the Office of Advocacy and Outreach—after “all that has happened.” She said, "I know he has apologized and I accept that. A new process is in place and I hope that it works ... I think I can be helpful to him and the department if I just take a little break and look at how I can be more helpful in the future.”
